Planning van dag 8:
09:30 : Ontbijt @ 7-Eleven
10:30 : Vertrek naar ‘The Hoover Dam’.
11:15 : Aankomst Hoover Dam.
13:30 : We rijden door richting Noord, langs de baai, naar het
Valley of Fire State Park.
Onderweg nog een halte bij Stewarts Point aan Lake Mead.
15:15 : Aankomst Valley of Fire State Park, East Entrance Station.
- We komen na de entrance eerst The Elephant Rock tegen.
- Dan rijden we door de Seven Sisters…verder naar het Visitor center.
15:30 : Visitor Center:
- White Domes : The "Fire Wave" is a one mile round trip walk in the
White Domes area of Valley of Fire State Park, the oldest state
park in Nevada (dedicated in 1935). Starting more than 150
million years ago, great shifting sand dunes during the age of
dinosaurs were compressed, uplifting, faulted, and eroded to
form the park's fiery red sandstone formations.
- Halte aan Duck Rock: rots in de vorm van… raad eens ;-)
- Volgende stop: Fire Canyon.
- Mouse’s Tank Trail: Mouse’s Tank is a natural basin in the rock where
water collects after each rainfall. A half-mile round trip trail
leads to Mouse’s Tank from the trailhead parking area. There
are excellent examples of prehistoric petroglyphs on the trail.
- Atlatl Rock: This area has outstanding petroglyphs that should not be
missed.
- Arch Rock: Arch Rock is a must see and a great photo opportunity.
There is also a 2-mile scenic loop that has views of some of the
most interesting rock formations, including Arch Rock and Piano
Rock.
18:00 : We verlaten Valley of Fire via de West Entrance en rijden via de I-15 terug
naar Las Vegas.
19:00 : Back in Vegas for dinner @ ?
20:00 : The Strip…
